Renting the Runway
Ever since I first heard about Rent the Runway, I’ve been intrigued. It reminded me of the years when I could always have something new and chic to wear because I lived next door to my friend Hie Jung and her so-much-better-than-mine wardrobe.
Recently, I was invited to a black-tie event and I decided it would be a great excuse to spend a few hours surfing—I mean researching—Rent the Runway.
I’ll just say, they have it together. The pictures and reviews from women who have rented the dresses were extremely helpful. When I called with questions, someone answered the phone—and was helpful. The dresses—they sent me both an extra size and a back-up dress—arrived on time and in great shape, and shipping them back was a breeze. If you need to attend a lot of events for business, or even if you just want to use the monthly service to always wear something new without breaking the bank or bursting the closet, I say go for it.
Of the two sizes they sent, the dress that fit better was too long—I had heels, but I was worried I’d trip. The back-up was gorgeous but showed my tan lines (of course, who knew I had tan lines?). In the end, I wore the long dress, and I got a lot of compliments. Even so, I kept wondering if I would have been more comfortable wearing the not-quite-black-tie dress I already own.
That’s just me. It pains me to say that I care more about comfort than looking fabulous. Now that I’ve done it once, I think I’d do it better a second time. Anyone else want to invite me to a black tie event?
