Setting it Up

Recently, a client booked me for the first Monday of every month through April. She said it’s a way of setting herself up for success—a lot like her epic to-do lists. When I work with her, in addition to organizing, we often make these lists, which sound daunting, but are actually a great tool. I leave, and she has her next moves all lined up.

There are lots of ways to set yourself up for success, but whatever else you do, it’s important to take a moment—once a week, once a month or even once a day—to reevaluate. We all work, work, work, but if you never stop to assess, you may not really have any sense of what you’re working towards. Ask yourself what you’ve accomplished, what you still need to do, and set down some action items related to your next goals and ambitions.

Carving out a little time to clear off your desk, redo your to-do list and think about what your next big project will be is not a waste of time, it’s an investment. When your goals are clear and your paperwork is under control, you can make time for both fun and for your bigger goals, whether that means writing a book or finishing a photo album.

Try it: Put it in your calendar. Set aside an hour to just get your ducks in a row, clear the decks and lay out your goals for the week. And share your experiences on my facebook page.
